Janice Stork Sponsored Astrology Legislation President Ronald
Reagan Signed Into Law While Governor of California

Dedicated to her astrology practice and her colleagues, Janice Stork was pictured in the Sacramento Bee Newspaper in 1973 for her efforts before the City Council and Board of Supervisors to lift the ban on astrology in Sacramento. When attempts failed, she registered as a lobbyist for the Sacramento Astrological Research Society. In 1974, at her request, Assemblyman Ed Z'berg introduced Assembly Bill 3503 which was coauthored by Assemblymen Deddeh, Garcia, Wilson and Senator Gregorio. This legislation was significant because it took astrologers out of the realm of fortune tellers and said the State would permit cities and counties to regulate the practice of astrology for compensation. On August 30, 1974 Governor Ronald Reagan signed this legislation into law which became Chapter 583, and added Section 50027 to the Government Code, relating to astrology. After this legislation was passed, Sacramento licensed astrologers and allowed them to practice
for compensation. (EMAIL REQUEST FOR COPY OF LEGISLATION)
